IDC...Ken Robinson's Talk...Creativity in Schools

I perceived this to be eye opening as while we are constantly begin informed that the world is constantly and rapidly changing, it is revealed that our education system proves to be stuck in a form of suspended animation. Our various courses are still arranged in a hierarchy of importance, with math's and sciences far far out in front. With arts and other forms of creative outlets are being dragged behind them.

I'm at a loss in how mind numbing creativity crushing courses are seen as superior then courses that foster innovation and originality are see as less when it is constantly being declared that only creative ingenuity and can solve the problems we will most certainly face in the near future. So here we are stuck in an education system that has changed a minuscule amount in almost 200 years, it appears that we have progressed from the stone age to the bronze age in 2 centuries, GO US.

So here we are in this world were the 2 greatest suppliers of knowledge The Media and The Education system are telling us conflicting tales and we have no way of knowing whom to believe other then basing on our opinions. Unless you have a better way of deciding?

  1. On top of that, I think that Society has really attempted to turn adolescants into an incribly precitable, and slow progressing, hive mind. Look at the modern fashion statements. People rely to heavily on what the media tells them to do, and when they don't have access to the "all great" bowels of the media, they panic, and every now and then, an original idea comes from that. Regardless of what my fealings seem to be on what people have turned common knowledge into, it seems as though I've finally found someone who agrees with me, or maybe that I agree with. Either, Koodos too ya and I plan on commenting more soon.

  2. Good post, Brian.

I completly agree with everything that you said. It's interesting that you brought up the idea that the education system and the media are telling us two different things:
The media perceives creative people as a good thingl; the cool outsiders that REALLY know whats going on.
Then again, the education system brings up the point that creativity is useless and doesn't serve you well in life, seeing as how artistic pursuits are feeble and will never work out in the end.

Keep writting, and I'll keep commenting (since you've been bugging me to) haha.
